Below is an animatic edit I created as a moodReel. My intention was to test and explore the mood and emotions that I wanted to evoke with my project. I have found that creating a moodReel is an effective way to establish the desired rhythm and tone of the story at an early stage, similar to how a moodBoard works for an illustration
In this particular case, I went for a darker tone with a bit of dark humor, since the story was about a mischievous child spirit that traps abusive parents in her psychological dollhouse limbo to seek revenge on behalf of their mistreated children. I drew inspiration from names in the horror/fantasy genre like Guillermo del Toro and Tim Burton, as well as stories like "A Series of Unfortunate Events", "Coraline", and "And Then There Were None", to name a few
